Paralegal Toya Walker recognized by State Bar of Texas for volunteering time and special skills in service to the community.
Waters & Kraus paralegal, Toya Walker, has been named the winner of the Exceptional Pro Bono Award for 2017-2018. The award is sponsored by the Paralegal Division (PD) of the State Bar of Texas each year in recognition of a PD member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to pro bono service. The award will be presented to Ms. Walker during the Paralegal Division’s 2018 Annual Meeting Luncheon on June 22, 2018, in Austin, Texas.
Shanna Mello, chair of the Paralegal Division said of Ms. Walker, that “[t]he extensive work and the dedication you have shown to pro bono work is an inspiration to other paralegals.”
Ms. Walker is no stranger to community service and pro bono work. During her tenure, she has served as a volunteer on the US Global Leadership Coalition Texas Advisory Committee, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), National Association of Legal Assistants and Paralegals (NALA) Continuing Education Council, Director for the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division, Ambassador of the J.L. Turner Legal Association-Paralegal Section, Pro Bono Legal Clinic Chair, Southlake Chamber of Commerce Leadership Southlake Alumni and Advocacy Project Leader, Past Recording Secretary/Student Relations Committee Member of the Southern University Alumni Federation-Dallas Chapter, 2017 College Megafest Legal Panel Member, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

About Toya Walker
Toya Walker is a multi-talented legal and compliance professional who has dedicated her life to serving others in the legal profession and in the community. Ms. Walker serves as an appellate paralegal at Waters & Kraus and is an adjunct instructor at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Ms. Walker has been a paralegal since 2002 after attending law school and has been fortunate to work in the public and private sector. Ms. Walker graduated cum laude in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 2000, Ms. Walker completed her first year of legal studies toward a Juris Doctor degree at Southern University Law Center. In 2002, Ms. Walker graduated from Southeastern Paralegal Institute in Dallas, Texas, where she obtained her paralegal certificate, which is approved by the American Bar Association. In April 2017, Ms. Walker became a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional through the Compliance Certification Board.
