Values in Action: Our Commitment to Pro Bono Access to Justice Work

At Waters Kraus Paul & Siegel, we are committed to the idea that access to justice is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for the few. Our long-standing commitment to community service includes dedicating significant resources to pro bono legal representation, ensuring that high-quality legal help is available to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. We see this work as an essential part of our professional responsibility and a core tenet of what it means to be lawyers.

Our dedication is deeply rooted in the founding principles of our firm: advocating for individuals, upholding the rule of law and the Constitution, and working to level the playing field against powerful corporate entities and potential government overreach. We are proud to channel our firm’s talent and passion into supporting these crucial ideals.

Recent examples highlight this ongoing commitment:

  • Defending Legal Independence: Waters Kraus Paul & Siegel was one of fewer than 10 Texas-based law firms to recently sign amicus briefs opposing prior executive actions that threatened to penalize lawyers and firms for representing clients or causes viewed unfavorably by the administration. The briefs underscored the critical importance of the rule of law, the independence of legal counsel, and the dangers inherent in politicizing access to justice.
  • Protecting Civil Liberties: In partnership with the Texas Civil Rights Project, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Muslim Advocates, and the CLEAR Project, our firm is currently representing Leqaa Kordia in connection with her habeas corpus petition requesting her release from a Texas immigration facility. Ms. Kordia, a New Jersey resident from Palestine, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since March 2025 despite an immigration judge determining that she should be released on bond. Her detention followed her exercise of her First Amendment rights when she attended a Palestinian rights demonstration.
  • Ongoing Partnerships: We have a well-established relationship with the Texas Civil Rights Project, playing key roles in vital litigation to safeguard First Amendment and voting rights for all Americans.

These cases and partnerships exemplify Waters Kraus Paul & Siegel’s unwavering belief in justice for all. We remain dedicated to utilizing our legal expertise to serve our community and defend the foundational principles of fairness and equality under the law.

“When individual rights are at risk, lawyers have a duty to step in. Access to justice should never depend on a person’s resources or immigration status,” said firm partner Caitlyn Silhan.
