Attorney Referrals

You may be an attorney or a law firm with a mesothelioma client, or your clients are family members of a mesothelioma victim, but this is not your area of expertise. You may be unsure if you have the foundation to litigate an asbestos case to its full potential. If so, consider a co-counsel relationship with Waters Kraus & Paul and see how our firm can benefit your client or family member.

Every lawyer has a practice area in which his or her skills and knowledge are keenly focused. For us, one of our greatest strengths is complex asbestos matters. Emphasizing malignancy cases in the 1990s, and accepting mostly mesothelioma clients in our asbestos practice for roughly 20 years, we’ve amassed comprehensive databases that allow us to strategically execute our cases with confidence and success. Just take a look at our results.

Without access to the precise data you need immediately, you risk severely undercutting the potential success of your client’s asbestos case. Referring your client to Waters Kraus & Paul can mean a valuable advantage for you and your client or family member.

Working With Referring Attorneys

As a professional, it makes sense to want the best results for your mesothelioma client, but committing all of your time to one case is unrealistic and unfair to your other clients. Put our extensive resources and seasoned attorneys to work for your case. Our asbestos lawyers will not only work up the case, but also serve as lead counsel for pre-trial, trial, and the negotiations of settlements. We will also manage all fees and disbursement of funds, though we recommend that you take part in the case in whatever role is most beneficial for all involved.

How Our Approach, Reach, and Resources Benefit You

We understand that trials involve greater risk, but that also means a greater reward. That’s why we prepare every case as if it will go to trial. It’s rarely the easy path, but it is the best way to maximize recovery of damages for your clients.

Coast to coast, our aggressive approach has enabled us to broaden our reach across the country. We strategically operate offices in the metropolitan areas of Dallas, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., by appointment in Moline.  This allows us to be in multiple jurisdictions around the country on any given day. This allows us to be where the clients are.

Your case will start at the top. All cases are led and overseen by a Waters Kraus & Paul partner — from strategy and preparation through the trial and beyond. You’ll see first-hand why our partners and lawyers are a very accomplished group of legal professionals with an impressive record of success.

Less will get you more. We focus more resources — time, expertise and dollars — on fewer cases, providing you and your client with a level of individualized attention that is virtually unheard of in the legal community. It’s not unusual for a high-volume plaintiffs’ firm to have 1 attorney for every 1,000 cases. At Waters Kraus & Paul it’s 1:5.

Information is king and in litigation, information is everything. Our firm has in-house Medical Resources and Litigation Support Departments with extensive medicolegal and informational databases and leading-edge technologies. Having this wealth of information available instantaneously — and an extraordinarily well-educated staff to cull and deploy it — gives your clients a decisive edge in the courtroom.

We take our referral and co-counsel relationships literally. We aren’t a litigation mill. Our clients aren’t just case numbers. They’re real people dealing with the biggest issues they’ll ever face. And we stand with them — however long and whatever it takes — until justice is done.

Fee Arrangements

Asbestos and mesothelioma claims are typically litigated on the basis of a contingent fee. The client must be advised of any associations or referrals and the terms must be outlined in an agreement, per The Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct (TDRPC). We will ensure transparent communications with you at every stage of your client’s case from shared fee splits and responsibilities through resolution, all in compliance with the appropriate Rules of Professional Conduct.
